Icahn Stadium, Randall's Island Track and Field

Randall's Island, New York — 2004
This state of the art track and field facility replaced the aging Downing Stadium on Randall's Island, across the East River from Manhattan. The new facility seats 5,000 and includes press and media facilities, club and officials' offices. A lightweight canopy covers the seating grandstand. The 3,900 square meter canopy spans 125 m and is suspended from two monumental 160 ft. tall light towers flanking the grandstand. The unique structure of the grandstand and canopy are key to the architectural expression of the building. Geiger Engineers was the structural engineer for the Project.
