Geiger Engineers designed the retractable roof for the existing Carrier Modular Outfitting Facility in Newport News, VA. The 300 ft x 158 ft (91 m x 48 m) movable roof system consists of 4 panels that move to expose any 50% of the facility floor allowing the shipyard's large bridge crane to pick and lift out the large aircraft carrier modules assembled inside the facility. Geiger Engineers was responsible for the engineering of the entire roof system including structure, mechanical systems, controls, and cladding.
