Dedmon Center Roof Replacement, Radford University

Radford, Virginia — 2009
Geiger Engineers was the engineer for the design/build roof replacement at the Dedmon Center, a multipurpose athletic and recreation field house on the Radford University campus. The original air-supported roof over the 50,000 sq ft (4,645 sq m) field house was decommissioned and replaced with a lightweight steel truss system spanning 180 feet (590 meters). The truss system supports the tensioned membrane roof made of Tensotherm - a patented fabric that is thermally and acoustically insulating while still transmitting light. The project also included replacing the original fabric in the natatorium's tensioned membrane roof with Tensotherm.
