Geiger Engineers designed the flying effects structural system for the aerial performances in the Broadway show Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. A complete computer analysis model of the Front of House roof structure was developed to understand how the rigging loads would affect the theater. Geiger interpreted 3D renderings of the complex layout of flight lines in determining loads for the roof truss computer analysis model. Additional steel was designed to retrofit the roof to accommodate the rigging required for the show’s numerous flying sequences, many taking place in the Front of House over the audience. Geiger liaised with the New York State Department of Labor and submitted documents facilitating that Department’s approval of a variance for the production. Geiger Engineers’ role included structural and mechanical design as well as construction review.
