Pan American Games 2011

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico — 2011
Geiger Engineers provided engineering analyses of PRG’s Halo for the 2011 Pan American Games’ opening ceremonies held at Omnilife Stadium in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. The Halo comprised a circular truss with an inner catwalk and was suspended in the center of the stadium’s roof opening. Geiger Engineers performed a non-linear analysis of the Halo’s support cables using an in-house, proprietary computer program. This allowed the accurate determination of the tension forces that would be exerted on the Halo when it was flown in the stadium. The non-linear analysis results were applied to a structural computer model of the Halo itself to check its capacity.
