Centerhung Videoboard Structure, PPG Paints Arena

Pittsburgh, PA — 2023
Geiger Engineers designed the structural support truss grid for the center hung videoboard at the PPG Paints Arena, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The structure consists of four trusses in a cruciform pattern that support nominally 40,000lb of LED panels and three levels of catwalk. To minimize weight, a unique vertical safety net system is incorporated in lieu of catwalk guardrails. In addition to the four main faces of the videoboard and the curved corner panels, the structure supports two belly boards and the winch cables. The structure is suspended on four cables leading to an existing winch system allowing the entire assembly to be lowered for maintenance. The entire installation of videoboard, belly boards, and catwalks plus support truss grid weighs approximately 80,000 lbs.
