Geiger Engineers designed the structural steel framework supporting the new center-hung videoboard at the KeyBank Center, home of the Buffalo Sabres. The new board, measuring approximately 43’x43’x28’, is nearly double the size of the previous one and features a seamless viewing surface. Two additional "belly boards" below the main display enhance the fan experience in the lower seating area.
The structure consists of four trusses arranged in a cruciform pattern, providing support for the LED panels and three levels of catwalks. To reduce weight, a vertical safety net system was used instead of traditional guardrails.
In addition to the four main display faces and curved corner panels, the structure also supports the belly boards, electrical equipment, and signage. The entire system is suspended from a new fixed winch, allowing the board to be lowered for maintenance. Weighing approximately 70,000 lbs, the videoboard is a significant upgrade, designed to improve the in-arena experience for fans.
